Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWIPL), a european automaker, announced that it had produced more than 1.5 million automobiles at its Chakan (Pune) facility since it opened in 2009. These include Volkswagen and Skoda vehicles including the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, and Volkswagen Taigun.

This is consistent with the company's 'Make in India' policy, with more than 30% of its automobile output exported to nearly 40 foreign markets. The Chakan factory, which began production with the Skoda Fabia, has subsequently manufactured a variety of models, including the Volkswagen Vento and Polo, as well as the Skoda Rapid. The INDIA 2.0 series, which includes the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, as well as the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, just reached 300,000 vehicles in production.

In addition to its vehicle manufacturing prowess, SAVWIPL's Engine Shop has manufactured over 380,000 engines in the last 10 years, relying primarily on components purchased in India.

Speaking on this, Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto a.s. board member for production and logistics, stated, "The achievements of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India resonate far beyond national borders, reflecting our commitment to excellence and innovation on a global scale." Piyush Arora, managing director and CEO of SAVWIPL, added, "Our significant output at the Chakan plant and the success of our MQB models stand testament to our dedication to India's automotive industry. As we outline our expansion plan in India, we aim to elevate the country’s position as a global hub for automotive manufacturing."
