TP Solar Plans to Double Solar Cell and Module Production in Tamil Nadu

TP Solar, a division of Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), aims to double the output of its solar cell and module manufacturing plant located in Tamil Nadu. During a virtual address, Tata Group chairperson N Chandrasekaran stated there are significant opportunities for growth, and the capacity will be increased to over 8 gigawatts (GW) in the near future. Nevertheless, he did not specify the timeline for growth.

Chandrasekaran spoke during the opening of the facility by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday. The TP Solar facility situated in Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district, holds the title of the largest in the nation at one site, boasting a capacity of 4.3 GW. The firm has allocated Rs 4,300 crore for it.

Dr. Praveer Sinha, the CEO and managing director of Tata Power, mentioned that the plant was established in an impressive timeframe of two years, with 80% of the workforce being local women.
