Thermax announced a partnership with Ceres Power for the manufacturing of large-scale solid oxide electrolysis cells in India to produce green hydrogen. Ceres Power Holdings plc (CWR.L) is a parent company of Ceres Power, a top developer of clean energy technology.

In a recently submitted regulatory document, the energy and environment solutions provider announced a non-exclusive, worldwide license agreement with Thermax to produce, market, and maintain stack array modules (SAM) utilizing Ceres' advanced solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology.

Thermax will also create, market, and distribute SAM balance of modules (SBM) and multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyser modules.

"The partnership marks a significant step towards accelerating the deployment of SOEC technology in India and worldwide that will enable cost-effective green hydrogen production, Thermax said in a statement.

In this collaboration, Thermax will utilize its vast knowledge in heat integration and waste heat recovery to produce a unique pressurized SAM and create, design, and develop SAM balance of module (SBM), which will serve as a foundation for the advancement of a multi-MW SOEC electrolyser module.

The partnership aims to produce systems that are 25% more efficient than current low-temperature electrolysis technologies and efficiently use steam from industrial process heat or waste heat recovery. This makes it the best choice for reducing carbon emissions in difficult-to-clean sectors like ammonia/fertilizer, steel, refineries, and chemical manufacturing.
