Tata Projects declared that the building of Micron Technology's semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Sanand, close to Ahmedabad, is progressing rapidly. Nevertheless, a timeline for finishing the work has not been disclosed yet. As stated by Amit Agrawal, project director at Tata Projects, 60 percent of the work on this facility — the first of its kind in India — is already finished.

The facility is being constructed on 50 acres within the Sanand industrial zone. Building commenced in July 2023. This Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility is set to be among the largest back-end semiconductor factories globally, employing 3,500 personnel who are presently engaged in its building.

An ATMP facility primarily serves as a backend fabrication site where semiconductors undergo testing, packaging, and marking processes. This may be the biggest back-end semiconductor fabrication facility globally. "According to Agrawal, journalists were informed that 60 percent of Phase-1 work has been finished with a workforce totaling 3,500."

“We will transfer this facility to Micron by December 2025 once we complete civil work, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing tasks along with engineering activities according to the designs provided by Micron.” "The ultimate decision to start the plant will be made by Micron," he stated.

As India aims to establish itself as a global center for semiconductor production, a report from talent solutions firm NLB Services predicts the sector will generate one million jobs in different areas by 2026.
