Tata Electronics to Establish Display Manufacturing Plant in Gujarat
A senior executive of Tata Electronics said on Wednesday that the company is planning to establish a display manufacturing facility in Gujarat with a collaboration of Taiwan PSMC and Himax Technologies. During the IESA vision summit, Tata Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur announced the signing of a tripartite agreement with the Gujarat government regarding the plant.
I am pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among Tata Electronics, PSMC, and Himax aimed at transforming India's display product and technology landscape. Thakur stated, "Leveraging PSMC's established technology, Tata Electronics will produce display chips for Himax in Dholera, Gujarat." The display manufacturing sector is vast, and Tata Electronics will establish a foothold in all three leading segments of semiconductor manufacturing.
The organization is currently engaged in establishing a semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat by investing a hefty amount of around Rs 91000cr, with the collaboration of a power chip semiconductor manufacturing corporation (PSMC). PSMC ranks as the seventh-largest pure-play foundry globally, operating four 12-inch and two 8-inch fabrication plants in Taiwan, with a production capacity exceeding 2.1 million 12-inch equivalent wafers yearly.
The new display manufacturing unit marks a significant step in India's growing semiconductor industry and aligns with the government's vision of strengthening the country's electronics manufacturing capabilities.
