Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) aims to establish India as a worldwide production center for electric vehicles, focusing on small EVs, by utilizing its strong manufacturing capabilities in the region. Toshihiro Suzuki, the representative director and president of Suzuki Motor, stated Thursday that the company anticipates a rise in demand for electric vehicles in India, contrary to slow global trends. Suzuki plans to launch various products, such as compact, budget-friendly vehicles, to strengthen its foothold in the market.

Suzuki, in New Delhi for the second edition of the Bharat Mobility Show, stated that as competition has increased in India—now the world's third-largest automobile market—subsidiary Maruti Suzuki has prepared various offerings in the rapidly expanding SUV segment to recover its passenger vehicle market share. Maruti Suzuki intends to regain its 50% market share by the year 2030.

The firm will also keep serving customers in the small car market, anticipating an increase in demand as two-wheeler owners begin transitioning to four-wheeled automobiles. Suzuki stated that the two electric vehicles, the e Vitara and e Access, set for launch in India are "global models."

"India will be a production hub for electric vehicles. For Suzuki, scale in India is our strength. We will fully leverage this advantage to supply vehicles to Europe, Japan, Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Asian countries," Suzuki said.
