Suchi Semicon Proposes $100 mn Funding into OSAT Plant in Gujarat
Suchi Semicon, a semiconductor manufacturing company located in Surat, revealed their plan to invest $100 million in their Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) plant. This facility will be Gujarat's inaugural unit to commence semiconductor production in November of this year.
The investment will take place during the following three to five years. According to the company, the facility in Surat district, Gujarat, will cover an initial area of 30,000 square feet and will be able to manufacture 3 million chips per day. It will include advanced Class 10,000 and 100,000 cleanroom environments.
The company has received approval under the semiconductor policy of Gujarat state and has filed its proposal for the India Semiconductor Mission.
“From the day of start of its operations in November, the facility will be capable of producing 200,000 pieces a day,” said Shetal Mehta, Co-founder, Suchi Semicon.
Regarding the potential for accessing semiconductor fabs, Mehta stated that he believes there is ample time for the ecosystem to grow in India within the fabrication industry. Major players are on the way, we'll allow them to set up first. Currently, we will focus on OSAT and packaging.
The plant aims to generate a maximum of 1,200 employment opportunities and will specialize in advanced semiconductor assembly and testing. The company has partnered with Gujarat Technological University and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, to train a proficient workforce for the industry.
