Renault Nissan Surpasses 4.5 Million Powertrain Units at Oragadam Plant
Renault Nissan Automotive India (RNAIPL) has produced more than 4.5 million powertrain units at its manufacturing plant in Oragadam, Chennai, which is exclusively for the Renault Nissan Alliance. Since its commencement in 2010, a total of 2.83 million engines and 1.67 million gearboxes have been produced.
RNAIPL manufactures Renault and Nissan vehicles for both domestic and international markets, with a total of more than 2.75 million cars manufactured since the company started operating in 2010. The cutting-edge manufacturing plant has complete capabilities for engine production, starting from melting aluminum ingots to casting the molten metal into different engine components like the cylinder head and block at the casting shop, then machining them to exact sizes at the machining shop, and finally assembling them at the assembly shop.
The factory can manufacture engines that vary in size from 800cc to 1500cc. RNAIPL offers capabilities for producing gearboxes, such as gear machining, shaft machining, clutch housing machining, and gear heat treatment.
RNAIPL has manufactured seven types of engines and three varieties of gearboxes since production started in May 2010. RNAIPL's powertrain division achieved the milestone of one million engines in 2016, just six years after beginning production, and has also manufactured more than 160,000 units of electric vehicle (EV) reducer components for overseas markets.
