Ola Is In Talks With Kaynes Tech To Produce Chips For EVs

Ola Electric and Kaynes Semiconductor, a company based in Mysore, are in discussions to produce chips using its own designs. Kaynes would assemble and process imported wafers to make the chips. Presently, global chip manufacturers like Qualcomm and Meditek are the source of processors for EV manufacturers like Ola.
 
“Yes, we have had talks with Ola Electric and some other auto original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India to look at opportunities to make the chips based on the design as it is a growing market,” said Kaynes Semicon CEO Raghu Panicker. Kaynes Semicon is part of the publicly-listed Kaynes Technology. a Rs. 20,000 crore electronic systems design and manufacturing (ESDM) player. 

Kaynes Technology is one of several electronics startups hoping to gain from India's current semiconductor and manufacturing push. Ramesh Kunhikannan, an electrical engineer, created the company in 1988. It began as a manufacturing enterprise. Over time, it has grown into a player in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) business, providing end-to-end and IoT solutions in a variety of industries such as automotive, industrial, aerospace, defense, and more.

Kaynes Technology currently manufactures printed circuit boards, Bluetooth modules, and chipsets for the automotive and aerospace industries. It has about 1,500 employees and eight plants throughout India.
