Netgear Aims Local Manufacturing To Avail PLI Scheme
Netgear intends to develop a manufacturing plant in accordance with the country's Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) policy and take advantage of the government's production-linked incentive (PLI) program.
"Having success in this (Indian) market, we are actively investigating (domestic manufacturing) it," Charles Prober, Chief Executive Officer, Netgear told ETTelecom.
Prober became the company's chief executive officer in January of this year. He went on to say that local production of goods will spur faster growth.
"I expect this region to grow more quickly as compared to other regions. We have big aspirations for growing the business here and taking advantage of all the economic development that's happening in the country."
Additionally, Prober stated that the US-based business is assessing the comprehensive production-linked incentive (PLI) program and may reap the necessary benefits while implementing a Make in India plan. Up to Rs 2,500 crores have been invested by telecom firms under the incentive programme.
With a Rs 12,195 crore budget, the Center launched the PLI initiative for networking and telecom equipment in February 2021. The program was changed in April of last year to support design-led manufacturing in India.
The company recently extended its R&D facilities in Bengaluru. According to the CEO, the American multinational will also have long-term initiatives, such as incremental investment in the Indian market.
"We are expanding our sales team. Right now, we are present in more than 20 cities in India. By the end of this year, we are targeting to present directly in more than 30 cities," he added.
