Mobile phone exports exceed Rs 2L crore in FY25
Thanks to the iPhone, mobile phone exports from India topped Rs 2 lakh crore in fiscal year 2024-25, representing a major increase of 54% compared to 2022-23. The iPhone alone accounted for Rs 1.5 lakh crore of the exports. The country's Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, hinted at potentially doubling electronics exports in the next five years. "Smartphones are now among the top exported goods out of India," Vaishnaw said.
In addition to Apple, Samsung also exports phones out of India and other names include Motorola. While Chinese players such as Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi have goodwill in India, they have yet to capitalize on exports. The minister said that the electronics manufacturing ecosystem has grown by more than five times in the last 10 years, while electronics export has increased by more than six times.
Vaishnaw also stated the rollout of the component scheme and guidelines, which indicate an incentive of Rs 22,919 crore to grow the electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The scheme could lead to direct employment of around 1 lac while increasing value addition in manufactured products. "We achieved value addition of about 20% and now aim to double this over the next five years."
According to the minister, the electronics manufacturing ecosystem, component manufacturing included, grew with the underlying growth of the industry. "More than 400 production units are there, small and big, which are manufacturing a variety of components."
