Mahindra Unveils Advanced EV Manufacturing Hub at Chakan for Next-Gen SUVs

Automaker Mahindra launched its advanced manufacturing and battery assembly plant at its Chakan facility, focused on producing next-generation SUVs. The facility, strategically positioned within Mahindra's Chakan manufacturing hub, runs completely on renewable energy and is a water-positive location, emphasizing sustainability and innovation.

In its Rs 16,000 crore investment strategy for FY22-FY27, Mahindra has set aside Rs 4,500 crore for this new facility. The investment includes powertrain development, cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, and software integration, guaranteeing the creation of top-quality electric vehicles (EVs) and parts.

The electric vehicle production plant covers 88,000 square meters and includes a completely automated Press Shop, an AI-enhanced Body Shop, and state-of-the-art robotic Paint Shops to guarantee efficiency and high quality.

More than 500 robots, overseen via IoT-driven systems, handle operations with immediate insights and complete traceability. Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) along with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) enhance material handling, showcasing Mahindra's commitment to safety and dependability.

The facility features a top-tier battery assembly line, engineered to produce high-performance and long-lasting batteries. The compact line uses exclusive manufacturing methods, including innovative pallet designs and concealed cell terminal welding for safety and accuracy.

Batteries in the facility undergo extensive testing that replicates real-world scenarios, featuring IP67-rated ingress protection and continuous anomaly detection. This guarantees reliable operation and reassurance for electric vehicle users.
