Lenovo Aims for 100% PC Manufacturing in India in 3 Years
Multinational technology company Lenovo announced that all of its computer models will be manufactured in India over the next three years. Senior executives said the firm hopes to achieve full production for its PC business during this period. This achievement will encompass the firm’s AI-PC offerings as well. These announcements were made while the firm celebrated 20 years of its presence in India.
Managing Director of Lenovo India, Shailendra Katiyal, stated that the company makes 30 percent of its sales locally and plans to increase that number to 50 percent next year and 100 percent in three years. Katiyal noted that the company's first AI-powered servers will be shipped starting April 1 from its manufacturing base in India. He spoke at the company’s Lenovo TechWorld India 2025 event in Mumbai.
Lenovo previously opened a production facility in Puducherry, which is expected to produce 50,000 enterprise AI servers and over 2,400 GPUs yearly. In addition to expanding its Indian manufacturing operations, the company seeks AI professionals to bolster its R&D operations. The firm has also established another research center in Bengaluru, aiming to turn India into an artificial intelligence powerhouse. Lenovo India has 14,000 employees, of which approximately 400 are based at the newly opened R&D center in Bengaluru.
