Reliance Jio's enterprise arm is placing a strong focus on private 5G networks to cater to the evolving needs of the manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare sectors, as industries accelerate towards Industry 5.0. Speaking at the recently concluded ETTelecom 5G Congress 2025, Ajay Sehgal, Chief Revenue Officer of Jio Business, emphasized the growing demand for dedicated connectivity solutions.

“As factories increasingly adopt automation and IoT technologies, the need for reliable, high-speed and secure connectivity has outgrown the capabilities of standard public 5G networks, creating the need for dedicated private networks,” Sehgal said during a fireside chat moderated by Mohit Agrawal, Research Director (AI & IoT), Counterpoint Research.

According to Sehgal, private 5G networks are expected to become a reality within the next three to four months. Drawing an analogy to the shift from public to private cloud infrastructure, he noted a similar transition now underway in network architecture.

Jio is leveraging 5G network slicing technology to offer dedicated private networks tailored to the specific requirements of modern industrial environments. “Through 5G network slicing, Jio is providing dedicated private networks that meet the specific demands of modern factories, ensuring greater control, lower latency and enhanced data security,” he said.

Sehgal highlighted that the integration of private 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), and edge computing is not only enabling connectivity but also transforming the very nature of industrial operations. “It’s empowering manufacturers to work smarter, respond faster and innovate. Industry 5.0 is all about creating harmony between advanced technology and human intelligence. In a factory setting, machines may handle precision and scale, but people bring context, creativity and decision-making to the table,” he explained.

He further elaborated on the core philosophy of Industry 5.0. “The essence of Industry 5.0 lies in the seamless synchronisation between humans and technology. It’s a shift toward a more human-centric approach, where people are not just part of the process but at the very heart of it,” Sehgal added.

Private networks, defined as secured, dedicated communication networks confined within a specific geographic area, are designed to support critical business operations and applications. Jio is actively developing this capability to empower enterprises across sectors.

According to Sehgal, every machine in a modern factory must be IoT-enabled to facilitate real-time data monitoring and predictive maintenance—an objective well supported by private 5G. He also stressed the importance of edge computing in today’s industrial landscape.

“The days of relying solely on centralized data centers for compute processing are over. Now, processing must happen at the edge. These are the critical areas where Jio is investing, helping our manufacturing units embrace Industry 5.0 and meet its evolving demands,” he concluded.
