iPhone Manufacturing in India to Reach 30% of Apple's Volume by 2027

iPhone production in India is projected to account for 26-30% of Apple's overall volume by 2027 and nearly match China's output by 2030. India is Apple's only additional iPhone manufacturing hub following that nation. In FY24, iPhones manufactured in India accounted for 14-15% of the total global capacity of the Cupertino-based firm. 

Apart from Apple, the worldwide electronic manufacturing production is estimated at $4.3 trillion, as per a Niti Aayog report, with India's share being 1%.

“Apple conducted a similar exercise in China when they first started out,” the executive said. “They are now doing the same in India. They plan to have at least 40-70 companies based in India as part of their supply chain.”

“We have identified the materials that can be done out of India, considering the competencies that exist today,” another industry executive aware of the development told ET. “There are several companies that have started to look into this aspect. They are seeing this as an additional diversification opportunity, leveraging whatever strength and competency they have.”

He mentioned that various industrial companies have expressed interest in the supply chain for electronics and semiconductors. Nonetheless, customers must guide them to create solutions, as they do not possess the required knowledge.

The leading manufacturing and industrial firms in the country are collaborating with the government to integrate into an expanding global electronics supply chain. Approximately two dozen major industrial firms have recognized an opportunity to utilize their strengths and capabilities to manufacture components, sub-assemblies, and raw materials like chemicals and gases.
