Indian Government to Extend Subsidies Under FAME Scheme
The Indian government will extend subsidies under the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) until the launch of the third edition of its flagship incentive scheme FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles), according to Union Minister for Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy. Originally set to expire on September 30, EMPS will continue until FAME-III is introduced, which is expected to take an additional two months.
This marks the second extension of the EMPS, which was initially launched in April with an allocation of ₹500 crore and extended for two months with an additional ₹278 crore. The scheme offers subsidies of up to ₹10,000 per two-wheeler and ₹50,000 per three-wheeler to promote e-mobility. Companies selling locally manufactured EVs at a discount can claim these subsidies from the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
Kumaraswamy reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering India’s EV ecosystem by promoting local manufacturing and sustainable growth, indicating that FAME-III will be rolled out within the next two months.
Last week, Kumaraswamy indicated that FAME-III would be launched within the next two months. “The government is unwaveringly committed to advancing India’s EV ecosystem with a focus on fostering local manufacturing and sustainable growth. FAME-III will be rolled out within two months,” he had said.
