In 2027, India's contribution to overall iPhone shipments is projected to be between 20-25%, up from 12-14% in the previous year. Tata Electronics in India has agreed to purchase a controlling interest in Pegatron's sole iPhone facility in India, creating a new partnership that enhances Tata's role as a supplier for Apple.

Tata will own 60% of the joint venture and manage daily operations, with Pegatron owning the remaining 40% and offering technical support, as per the deal disclosed internally last week. Amid tensions between Beijing and Washington, Apple is increasingly seeking to broaden its supply chain away from China. The Chennai Pegatron facility will enhance Tata's iPhone production strategy in India. Tata, a leading conglomerate in India, has been quickly venturing into iPhone production, competing with Foxconn, the sole iPhone contract manufacturer in India.

The first source said that the announcement about the completion of the deal was made internally at the iPhone plant on Friday. The second source stated that the two companies intend to seek approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the upcoming days.

Tata currently runs an iPhone manufacturing facility in Karnataka, previously owned by Wistron of Taiwan. Additionally, a new facility is being constructed in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. This location already houses an iPhone component factory, which experienced a fire in September.
