India's Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Sales Exceed Rs 50,000 cr
Sales of telecom equipment have reached the Rs 50,000 crore mark under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The accomplishment highlights the effectiveness of government initiatives to boost domestic production and minimize import dependency, which are consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
Within three years of its start, the Telecom PLI plan had attracted an investment of Rs 3,400 crore, surpassing the Rs 50,000 crore mark in telecom equipment production, with exports reaching around Rs 10,500 crore.
This success has resulted in the creation of over 17,800 direct jobs and several indirect job possibilities, demonstrating India's telecom manufacturing sector's strong growth and competitiveness.
Government policies targeted at supporting local production and reducing import dependency have played a critical part in this success, with the goal of strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and positioning India as a worldwide hub for telecom equipment production, according to the press release.
The Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Large-Scale Electronic Manufacturing of Electronics, which includes mobile phone and component manufacturing, has greatly increased both production and exports.
From generating 5.8 crore mobile phones and importing 21 crore units in 2014-15, India produced 33 crore phones domestically in 2023-24, importing only 0.3 crore and exporting over 5 crore.
