India's Defence Exports Surge 31x with ₹1.27 Lakh Crore Production Growth
India's defence exports have increased by 31 times in the last ten years compared to 2013-14. In the previous fiscal year, the overall value of defense production in India witnessed a 17 percent increase, reaching Rs 126,887 crore.
Substantial funds are being allocated towards defense and aerospace production, through the creation of multiple defense centers. Furthermore, numerous multinational corporations have already provided, or expressed readiness to provide, important defense and aerospace knowledge to India.
The government has implemented various policies and reforms to promote the creation, innovation, and manufacture of defense equipment by local designers, in order to promote self-sufficiency in defense production.
JP Morgan, a global investment banking firm, predicts that India's defense sector is ready for significant and continuous growth due to rising capital expenditure. Factors driving this growth include fast-growing defense exports, a strong focus on local production, good returns on capital, and strong cash flows.
In the last ten years, the government has effectively instigated a change in policy, processes, and attitude to speed up the development of domestic defense manufacturing. JP Morgan emphasized that the industry is still in the initial phases of a long-term growth path.
