India's Coal Production Rises 4.38% to 104.43 MT in Jan 2025

India's coal output was 104.43 million tonnes (MT) in January 2025, reflecting a 4.38 percent rise from 100.05 MT during the same period last year, as per the Ministry of Coal. Output from Captive, Commercial, and Other Entities totaled 19.68 MT, showing a 31.07 percent increase from 15.01 MT during the corresponding period last year. Total coal production up to January 2025 reached 830.66 MT, indicating a 5.88 percent rise from 784.51 MT noted during the same timeframe last year.

In January 2025, total coal dispatches hit 92.40 MT, indicating a 6.31 percent rise from 86.92 MT in January 2024. Dispatches from Captive and Other Entities reached 17.72 MT, indicating a 29.94 percent rise from 13.64 MT during the corresponding period last year.

The total coal dispatch by January 2025 amounted to 843.75 MT, reflecting a 5.73 percent rise from the 798.02 MT noted in the same period last year. The size of the India Coal Market is projected to be 1.04 billion tons in 2025 and is anticipated to grow to 1.50 billion tons by 2030, with a CAGR of 7.57% throughout the forecast period (2025-2030).

Coal is widely utilized in India to fuel thermal power plants, thereby satisfying the needs of multiple sectors, including industry, transportation, housing, commerce, and public services.
