The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology has published information showcasing India's impressive change in mobile phone production over the last ten years, positioning the nation as the world's second-largest mobile manufacturing center.

As per the recent update from the ministry, India has experienced remarkable growth in its mobile manufacturing capabilities, with the total manufacturing units increasing from only two in 2014 to over 300 units currently.

This significant rise in production capacity has transformed the local mobile phone sector, resulting in locally produced devices now representing 99.2 percent of all mobile phones sold in India, a striking jump from only 26 percent in 2014-15.

The economic effect of this production revolution is similarly remarkable, as the manufacturing worth of mobile phones has skyrocketed twenty-two times. The sector has expanded from Rs 18,900 crore in the fiscal year 2014 to a remarkable Rs 4,22,000 crore in the fiscal year 2024, highlighting the significant economic advantages of India's drive for domestic manufacturing.

This change demonstrates the effectiveness of government efforts to enhance local manufacturing abilities and lessen reliance on imports, establishing India as an important contender in the worldwide mobile manufacturing arena. The significant transition from reliance on imports to nearly total domestic production marks a crucial milestone in the advancement of India's manufacturing industry and its quest for technological self-sufficiency.
