India ranks as the second biggest producer of aluminium, is one of the top ten producers of refined copper, and is the fourth largest producer of iron ore globally. The government announced on Thursday an increase of 4.1% in iron ore production to 158.4 million tonnes (MT) during the April-October period of the current fiscal year. According to preliminary data, iron ore production reached 152.1 million tons in the previous year.

The ongoing increase in iron ore production throughout the current fiscal year indicates the strong demand conditions in the industry. Together with the growth of aluminium and copper, these trends of growth indicate a persistent high level of economic activity in sectors like energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive, and machinery.

In the current fiscal year, manganese ore production increased by 11.1 percent to 2 MT from 1.8 MT in the same period last year. According to a statement from the mines ministry, bauxite production increased by 11.3% to 13.8 MT from 12.4 MT in the same period last year, from April to October.

It was reported that primary aluminium production increased by 1.2 per cent to 24.46 lakh tonne in the non-ferrous metal sector compared to 24.17 LT in the previous year. In that timeframe, the production of refined copper increased by 6 percent to 3 LT from 2.83 LT.
