Heavy Electrical Firm Powers Automation for India's Largest IOCL Pipeline

ABB India has implemented advanced automation and digital solutions to improve the safety and efficiency of the 20,000 km cross-country pipeline system of Indian Oil. This critical national infrastructure is significant to India’s energy security, delivering oil and gas to multiple states.

At the heart of ABB’s contribution is the ABB Ability SCADAvantage digital platform that enables real-time monitoring and control of the pipelines. By delivering essential data to aid in decision making, the platform increases availability and strengthens cyber security with modern added features including cloud disaster recovery systems. A major component of the project is the Centralized Pipeline Information Management System (CPIMS) which incorporates Indian Oil’s whole pipeline network into one control system. ABB also provided a commitment to a 10-year ABB Care contract for long-term support and maintenance of its delivered solutions.

ABB was contracted in February 2024 and quickly delivered on its design and implementation of the solutions in one year for rapid commissioning of the new intelligent system. This success demonstrates ABB’s promise to deliver efficient and dependable solutions for complicated infrastructure projects. Indian Oil’s pipeline operations will be more secure, reliable, and operationally efficient than ever before with these advancements in safety and digitalized pipeline management solutions.
