
Google To Team up with Foxconn To Manufacture Pixel Smartphones
Google is in advanced discussions with iPhone producer Foxconn about manufacturing Pixel devices in Tamil Nadu, according to sources. The decision comes as the tech behemoth seeks to expand its Pixel smartphone business in India in order to profit on the increased demand for premium handsets among consumers in the world's second largest smartphone market.
Google's parent company, Alphabet, will also begin producing drones in the state through its subsidiary Wing LLC. The company now provides drone delivery services to businesses in the United States, Europe, and Australia using a fleet of lightweight, autonomous delivery drones.
A Tamil Nadu delegation lead by state industries minister TRB Rajaa and other officials met with Google executives in the United States some weeks ago, according to reports.
Google is also in talks with local contract maker Dixon to produce Pixel devices in the nation, according to various media reports over the last week. These advancements come as Google's rival Apple aggressively increases local production of its flagship iPhone smartphones in India.
Apple produced $14 billion worth of iPhones in the country in fiscal 2024. The corporation now produces approximately 14 percent, or one in every seven iPhones, in India, as per sources.
