Foxconn to Set Up New Facility in Greater Noida, Creating 40,000 Jobs
Foxconn, Apple's biggest global supplier, is set to open its first factory in North India on a vast 300-acre site in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, close to the new Jewar International Airport. The factory will be larger than Foxconn's Bengaluru plant, making it India's biggest iPhone factory. The development reflects Foxconn's determination to increase its presence in India as global trade patterns change.
The plant will be situated along the Yamuna Expressway, within the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). It will hold a strategic location adjacent to Jewar Airport and expressways, thus ideally positioned for export and logistics activities.
The planned unit is to take up 300 acres, which is bigger than Foxconn's Bengaluru facility covering the same area but intended to make 20 million smartphones per year. The Greater Noida complex is said to provide 40,000 employment opportunities with residential facilities for laborers within the complex.
Although concrete products have yet to be determined, experts believe that the plant will mainly produce iPhones and other Apple products as a measure of diversifying production away from China for Foxconn.
Greater Noida is turning into a serious electronics manufacturing hub, just like Chennai. It already contributes close to 50 percent of the mobile phone exports of India. The Uttar Pradesh government has encouraged Foxconn vigorously, with many rounds of negotiation for the facilitation of the project. It has a suitable infrastructure and a ready supplier network that makes the place very alluring for worldwide manufacturers.
Foxconn's expansion is according to Apple's ambition to cut dependence on China and ramp up iPhone production in India, which so far contributes about 20 percent of global output. India exported iPhones valued at ₹1.5 trillion ($17.4 billion) in FY2025, which is its increasing place in the value chain of Apple. Apart from Greater Noida, Foxconn has factories in Tamil Nadu (Sriperumbudur), Karnataka (Bengaluru), and Telangana (Hyderabad). The firm is also investing in battery manufacturing and semiconductor assembly projects throughout India.
The new plant will create up to 40,000 direct jobs, increasing employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
