India Manufacturing Review
Wednesday, 23 April 2025

Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) is enhancing its local production presence in India, solidifying the Company's commitment to India and establishing it as a strategic innovation center in Ericsson's global presence. The expansion underscores EAS's vision of delivering high-performing mobile networks.

Ericsson will have 100 percent of the Indian market's EAS passive antennas localized by June 2025. This key investment enables faster time-to-market, tighter collaboration with local partners, and greater responsiveness to customer requirements while furthering the broader vision for India's digital future. The project enables India's fast-track rollout of 5G and underlines Ericsson's ability to react more agilely to evolving market needs both in the region and globally.

In India, EAS is launching local passive antenna production in collaboration with VVDN Technologies, an established technology partner. The launch positions India on Ericsson's world manufacturing map already covering facilities in Mexico, Romania, and China, boosting the company's diversification and future-proofing of its supply chain.

“At Ericsson, antennas are critical, serving as the entry point to enhanced network performance and innovation,” says Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System. “Expanding in India strengthens our ability to deliver cutting-edge technology at speed, closer to where our customers are building next-generation networks.”

Besides meeting local needs, a major share of the antennae manufactured in India will be shipped out, making the country a strategic hub in Ericsson's global supply chain. By locating product development closer to regional customer realities, Ericsson is compressing time-to-market while allowing for more local technology collaboration.

Being at the forefront of 5G, Ericsson has been in close collaboration with Indian operators to roll out high-performance networks. The company has delivered the Ericsson Radio System since 2015 to pre-prepare networks for 5G and demonstrated some of India's earliest 5G use cases, including a live music concert using 5G.

The growth of EAS manufacturing in India is completely orchestrated by Ericsson teams and complemented by a strategic supplier network, which supports global quality standards while preserving the agility required in today's fast-paced environment.

“This expansion reflects our commitment and long-term investment in India’s industrial and digital future,” says Nitin Bansal, Managing Director, Ericsson India. “By localizing production and building out a robust ecosystem, Ericsson is ensuring faster deployment, increased responsiveness, and stronger protection for its customers against environmental or external disruptions.”

With antennas now made in India—by India and for the world—Ericsson and EAS are building the future of global network infrastructure with a more secure supply chain near the customers. EAS next-generation antenna solutions enable operators to install high-capacity, dependable infrastructure to address the increasing data needs of 5G and beyond.
