Electrical Equipment Production Soars with Heaters, Transformers and More
The production of electrical equipment saw substantial expansion, fueled by electric heaters, compact transformers, and fiber optic connectors. The IIP figures for October displayed mixed results among various sectors. Infrastructure/Construction items recorded an index value of 183.0, while Intermediate items were at 163.4, Primary items at 149.9, and Capital items at 109.4. Consumer durables hit 130.2, while Consumer non-durables measured at 146.3.
India's industrial production, assessed by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), increased by 3.5 percent in October 2024, rising from 3.1 percent in the preceding month, according to official data published on December 12.
The data revealed that manufacturing output increased by 4.1% compared to the previous year in October, electricity generation saw a rise of 2%, and mining operations were up by 0.9%. The sectors had expanded by 10.6%, 20.4%, and 13.1%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
During the period from April to October, industrial production rose by 4%, in contrast to a adjusted 7% from the previous year. On a year-over-year basis, October IIP represented a notable decline from the same month last year when it reached 11.9%.
This growth was fueled by the mining, manufacturing, and electricity sectors. The indices for October 2024 were 128.5, 147.9, and 207.8 for each. In manufacturing, 18 out of 23 industry sectors experienced growth in comparison to October 2023. The largest contributors were “Manufacturing of basic metals” (3.5%), “Manufacturing of electrical equipment” (33.1%) and “Manufacturing of coke and refined petroleum products” (5.6%).
