Domestic Automobile Sales Surge 11.6% in 2024, Cross 2.54 Crore Units

The domestic automobile sales experienced an increase of 11.6 percent, reaching over 2.54 crore units in the calendar year (CY) 2024, up from around 2.28 crore, according to the data published by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). According to the data published by the industry organization, in December 2024, Total Passenger Vehicles sales rose by 10 percent compared to the same period last year, totaling 3,14,934 units.

The data indicates that Total Three Wheeler sales rose by 3.5 per cent in December, reaching 52,733 units, while Total Two Wheeler sales dropped by 8.8 per cent to 11,05,565 units during the same month, according to SIAM data. The quarter from October to December 2024 reported strong overall production results, totaling 75,92,011 units of Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers, Two Wheelers, and Quadricycles.

In the Oct-Dec quarter, passenger vehicle sales reached 10,58,145 units, sales of commercial vehicles totaled 2,38,050 units, three-wheeler sales hit 1,88,853 units, and two-wheeler sales amounted to 48,74,590 units. Between April and December 2024, sales of passenger vehicles reached 31,39,288 units, while commercial vehicles had sales of 6,83,471 units, three-wheelers totaled 5,62,652 units, and two-wheelers amounted to 1,50,39,570 units.

Commenting on sales data for 2024 calendar year, Shailesh Chandra, President, SIAM said, "2024 has been reasonably good for the Auto industry. Positive consumer sentiments and the country's macroeconomic stability helped in propelling reasonable growth for the sector across vehicle segments."
