Dixon Technologies has received a large manufacturing contract from the American computer company HP, supporting the government's goal to produce laptops in India with local businesses.

Dixon’s Oragadam factory, outside of Chennai, will produce the laptops and desktops that are the subject of the deal, according to chairman Sunil Vachani. Vachani stated, “We are planning to start production by April next year,” and added that the business would produce them under the government’s IT hardware production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

“The order from HP is a prestigious one and will help strengthen the government’s Make in India initiative and Atmanirbhar Bharat programme,” he said.

It is still uncertain how many computers HP intends to produce in India instead of importing. Vachani did not confirm immediately but Dixon is likely to provide around Rs 250 crore for the project. Dixon currently manufactures computers for Acer, which are assembled at its Noida facility.

HP can enhance its localization efforts and dedication to India through this partnership. Ipsita Dasgupta, the Managing Director of the company in India, has previously mentioned that the company aims to boost their manufacturing and sourcing operations in India, anticipating a threefold growth in the PC market within the next five years.
