Coal India Ltd (CIL) announced that it has increased coal prices by ₹10 per tonne for coking and non-coking coal from April 16, 2025.

“CIL Board at its meeting held on date, inter alia, approved enhancement of the notified price of coal by ₹10/- per tonne, i.e., from the existing ₹10/- per tonne to ₹20/- per tonne for non-coking and ₹10/- per tonne for coking coal for regulated and non-regulated sectors across CIL towards contribution to the corpus of CMPS-1998,” the company said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.

The announcement came after market hours. Coal India shares closed slightly down by 0.5% at ₹398 each on the National Stock Exchange. Additionally, CIL generated 781.1 million tonnes (MT) of coal in 2024-25, almost 7% below the company's goal for the fiscal year.

CIL aimed for a coal production target of 838 MT for the fiscal year 2024-25. However, CIL's coal production increased slightly by one percent in FY25 compared to the previous year, according to a regulatory filing from the public sector company.

Coal India represents more than 80% of national output. Coal India Ltd previously indicated that the achievable production goal for the 2024-25 fiscal year would be 806-810 million tonnes, reduced from 838 million tonnes. The firm has established a production goal of 868 million tonnes for FY26.
