Cisco Inaugurates Manufacturing Plant in Chennai
Cisco announced that it has opened its first manufacturing plant in Chennai, India, in an effort to enhance its local production capabilities. By making this decision, Cisco intends to generate more than $1.3 billion each year, boosting both exports and domestic manufacturing.
The project is anticipated to generate 1,200 job opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Cisco has collaborated with Flex to set up the facility. The primary emphasis will be on Cisco's Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series of routers at first. The company intends to manufacture high-quality routing and switching products at the location in response to increasing demand.
Cisco stated, “This state-of-the-art site will produce a range of Cisco’s best-in-class routing and switching products to meet the rapidly growing technology needs of organisations in India and around the world.”
The opening of the establishment was done by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, together with Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins and Cisco India President Daisy Chittilapilly.
“Cisco has collaborated with Flex to successfully build the Chennai site and bring advanced telecom technology that can help connect citizens in India and globally. This is the next milestone in Cisco and Flex’s longstanding 25-year partnership to ramp up manufacturing across the globe with speed, resilience, and sustainable practices,” the company said.
In the future, the company aims to prioritize advanced PCB assembly and industrial-grade products designed to endure harsh environmental conditions. Moreover, it will create intricate products that need thousands of separate parts to satisfy the needs of sophisticated networking equipment.
