BHEL, Adani Energy Join Hands for 6,000 MW HVDC Transmission Project
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) formed an important agreement with Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited as the wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) to develop a 6,000 MW ±800 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system.
BHEL along with Rajasthan Power Transmission Limited is building a 6,000 MW renewable energy power transmission link from Bhadla in Rajasthan to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh which extends over 950 kilometers. Operation of the HVDC system starting from 2029 will establish both power direction capabilities and enable renewable integration while strengthening grid stability.
"This project is a crucial step towards meeting India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and demonstrates BHEL's continued commitment to India's energy infrastructure and the Make in India initiative," said BHEL.
BHEL has achieved success with four UHVDC major transmission links starting from the North-East Agra and subsequently Raigarh-Pugalur and continuing with the ongoing Khavda-Nagpur HVDC links. BHEL will supply Converter Transformers, Shunt Reactors, and Thyristor Valves to convert AC power into DC at Bhadla and back to AC at Fatehpur, ensuring seamless renewable energy evacuation.
