
BEML Commences manufacturing driverless Metro Trainsets
BEML, a city-based company, started producing driverless Metro trainsets after receiving an order from BMRCL for 53 trainsets in Aug 2023. As per an official announcement, these trainsets will be utilized for services on future Namma Metro routes such as Blue Line (Central Silk Board-Kempegowda International Airport) and Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara).
In addition to designing, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning the trainsets, BEML will also offer extensive maintenance services for a period of 15 years. The project is estimated to have a value of Rs 3,177 crore. BEML's in-house engineering teams have created a six-car formation for the trainsets. They will be made with strong austenitic stainless steel, guaranteeing longevity, security, and rider convenience. The official announcement stated that every Metro car will have two roof-mounted saloon air conditioners.
In order to ensure passenger safety, the trains will have electrically powered automatic doors that are synchronized with platform screen doors.
One of India's public sector undertakings, Bharat Earth Movers Limited, produces a range of heavy machinery for activities like earth moving, railways, transport, and mining. The company's shares are traded on the National Stock Exchange of India with the symbol "BEML", and on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
