Aviation Manufacturing Boost with Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024
In a major move, Parliament approved The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 to substitute the 90-year-old Aircraft Act, seeking to enhance the ease of doing business in aviation and promote aircraft manufacturing in India.
Despite ongoing worries about the virtual duopoly of IndiGo and the Air India Group, which collectively control more than 90 percent of the domestic market, SpiceJet faced financial challenges and issues with lessors before successfully raising Rs 3,000 crore.
Akasa Air, experiencing a consistent though gradual ascent, is encountering accusations concerning safety matters, which the airline has labeled as unfounded and false. On January 18, the airline made an order for 150 additional Boeing 737 MAX planes.
Among other significant events, several airlines encountered DGCA actions for different violations, and regional carrier FLY91 began operations in March this year. Additionally, major regulators -- Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) -- currently lack a permanent leader, whereas the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has appointed a new Chairman.
Additionally, the ministry is led by TDP's K Rammohan Naidu, while BJP's Murlidhar Mohol serves as his assistant. Last month, Air India's Campbell Wilson described its transformation as a "Test match and not a T20".
