Dixon Technologies in discussions to acquire Transsion Holdings’ unit in India
Preliminary discussions are underway for Dixon Technologies to acquire a controlling interest in the Indian division of Transsion Holdings, a China-based handset manufacturer, for an estimated Rs 700 crore. This potential acquisition represents a strategic move by an Indian firm to bolster its presence in the mobile phone market and accelerate progress towards meeting production-linked incentive (PLI) targets. The envisaged expansion is expected to enhance Dixon's operational scale, facilitating the attraction of new clients and diversification into allied electronic segments.
Given the Indian government's emphasis on bolstering local participation in the mobile phone industry, any collaborative endeavor would mandate the Indian entity retaining a minimum 51 percent ownership stake.
Transsion Holdings, renowned for its brands including Techno, Infinix, and Itel, operates manufacturing facilities capable of producing 25–30 million units in Noida. In contrast, Dixon, known for manufacturing Xiaomi and Jio devices, boasts a capacity of 30 million smartphones and 50 million feature phones across its four Noida plants.
